Amazon’s Lord of the Rings Series is a Go

I can’t wait to watch Tom Bombadil drown in shit water.

Amazon has closed the deal on the acquisition of the rights to produce a Lord of the Rings series. They plan to make the show into a sort of Game of Thrones-like draw for Amazon Prime. And I get the feeling Jeff Bezos has too much money.

They plan on setting the show “before Fellowship of the Ring”. Which is, technically, a nebulous time period, since they haven’t said how far before Fellowship they plan to set it. If they’re smart, they’ll take some stuff from The Silmarillion and actually make it entertaining. I say that because reading The Silmarillion is like downing a bottle of NyQuil and expecting that you’ll still be able to operate heavy machinery. It can’t be done, and you’ll never convince me otherwise.

Either way, you’re getting a Lord of the Rings series on Amazon Prime. Regardless of how you feel about it. Then again, sometimes bad ideas on paper turn out good in the end, so make of it what you will.
