53-Year-Old Part-Timer Wins WWE Universal Championship In Saudi Arabia

The fact that WWE is in bed with Saudi Arabia is a matter for another article and an issue that fans are taking to heart as the company worms more of the Saudi Arabia show into weekly broadcasts with a direct impact on the ongoing product and not just a stand-alone show.

At Super Showdown 53-year-old part-time WWE wrestler and a man with only a single wrestling move, Goldberg, defeated “The Fiend” Bray Wyat to win the Universal Championship. This after months of building Wyat a second time after his initial run was also destroyed by the suits in Connecticut.

The match was essentially a squash match with Goldberg nailing four spears and ending with his Jackhammer move in a matter of minutes. Who knows what the future holds for someone not full-time on the roster, but with both Championships belts being held by part-timers and AEW pulling in young stars and giving fans what they want, things don’t look all that great for the current WWE product.

This win also sets up a potential matchup at Wrestlemania with Goldberg, who is a 53-year-old man, mind you, facing Roman Reigns for the Universal title. WWE seems intent on placing the focus on essentially retired talent at a time where AEW and other promotions are building young talent to an audience that feels more and more left out due to the people inside WWE creative.
