Today also saw a mini Nintendo Direct in celebration of Mario’s 35th anniversary. And, naturally, it announced a number of things, but most noticeably, the thing you’ve all been waiting for: Super Mario 3D All Stars, with Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy.
Super Mario 3D All Stars collects Mario’s three biggest 3D outings in one collection. There are however a few caveats; the game will only see a limited physical release, and both the physical and digital releases will be pulled from sale on March 31, 2021. Prepare yourself for the usual ebay scalpers, I guess. Available September 18th.
They also took a page from Tetris 99 with Super Mario Bros. 35, which will be available to Nintendo Switch Online members for free starting October 1st. You’re pitted against 35 other players, with enemies you defeat popping into other players’ worlds.
Just like 3D All Stars, this game will cease to be available (or even playable after) on March 31st, 2021.
Just, why?
Also, Super Mario 3D World is getting a Switch port in 2021. And thankfully, it doesn’t seem to have a limited release. It’ll also come with an expansion, Bowser’s Fury, about which only a teaser was shown. There will also be new Cat Mario and Cat Peach Amiibos released for the game:
They also announced Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, which assumes I have far more open floor space than I do. The associated toys go around a user-designed track, with a camera to allow an augmented reality effect on the Switch. It’s actually pretty cool, and it’s headed to retail October 16th.
Finally, they announced a special Game & Watch that comes with the means to play the original Super Mario Bros. and like all Game & Watch systems, it does still function as a clock. Moreover, in celebration of Mario’s 35th anniversary, it has 35 little secrets to discover. It also features two more games, Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels, and an udated version Game & Watch: Ball featuring Mario. The Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros. hits shelves November 13th.
