A lost Sonic game “Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car” has been found

Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car

I know we posted some time back about that lost Soinc Dreams collection bit, but this time this isn’t a some fun joke. Flash back to Japan 1991 and behold the game known as Waku Waku Sonic Patrol Car. Released to arcades in Japan in a limited form, the game was lost to time as archiving lesser known games wasn’t that big of a thing.

The game is very interesting for the fact that it was targeted for young children and saw Sonic behind the wheel of a police car. The player would navigate officer Sonic around town, following the rules of the road and battling Eggman. It’s not a game that sets the world on fire, but it’s nice a simple for the little kids of the time. It may also be the reason it was lost to time.

The people over at Sonic Retro have said that now that the game has been found, it will be making its way into the next MAME update. The funny things is that the machine itself wasn’t hidden away in some lost warehouse, or in the garage of someones father that worked on the game. The machine itself turned up in a Spanish mall, still taking coins and chugging away in near obscurity.
