Amazon Shows Off New Hybrid Prime Air Drone

Prime Air

Amazon continues to push the technology behind the (hopeful) upcoming Prime Air delivery service. The lat model was a very small drone that could drop of a variety of small items, but this new drone is quite the step up.

This Prime Air drone is much more than the basic quadcopter design that the original utilized. This new drone is both a copter and plane hybrid. The drone will land and take off vertically, and once at the proper altitude switches over to the standard horizontal flight mode.

In a video narrated by Jeremy Clarkson, Amazon shows off the new drone in action under real-world conditions. The drone itself can travel a distance of 15 miles and fly over 55 mph, so don’t expect 30 min or less if you live outside a delivery zone. The video also tells us that Amazon is working on a family of drones that will be designed for different locations and conditions.
