AMD Radeon drivers drop support for Windows 8.0

Are you looking to get your Watch Dogs fix on your Radeon powered Windows 8 Machine? Think again.

The latest version (14.6) of AMD’s popular Catalyst software, used by all Radeon powered PC’s has dropped all support for Windows 8.

If you plan on using the newest version of Catalyst, you are going to have to jump online and grab yourself the Windows 8.1 update.

AMD via (Legit Reviews) stated that it won’t support Windows 8.0. The company goes on to say

“focus our development efforts on the latest version of Windows 8, which is available to all users as a free update.”

With the Windows 8.1 update is offered free from Microsoft, this won’t be that large of an issue for most gamers as they are usually the first to update.

What is telling is that usage share statistics via (Netmarketshare) shows that a large portion of users have yet to upgrade to Windows 8.1 (just over half).

So if you have Windows 8.0 and want to get the most out of your Watch Dogs experience, you’ll want to pick up the Windows 8.1 update first. While Catalyst isn’t necessary to play the latest games, Watch Dogs does see a near 25% increase in performance.
