America’s newest stealth destroyer the USS Zumwalt can’t afford its own $800,000 per-round ammo

The USS Zumwalt is a ship sporting some bleeding edge tech. This new stealth destroyer is the pride of the American Navy at the moment, but its run into a little snag. You see, there is a problem in that the US Navy can’t afford the ammunition needed for the 155-millimeter “Advanced Gun Systems”.

Yup! The ships is out there being all futuristic, but with nothing in the barrels. The weapons system uses a GPS-guided shell known as the “Long Range Land Attack Projectile,” a name that just rolls off the tongue.

Jokes aside, the shells are damn impressive and can strike a target up to 60 miles away with pinpoint accuracy. The Zumwalt can launch 10 of these buggers every minute, raining down hellfire on the enemy.

The shells are quite amazing, but they come at a price as each shell costs the Navy an insane $800,000 each. That means one full volley of these little bastards will cost U.S. tax payers a cool $8,000,000!

The issue is that the Navy just doesn’t want these ships, even if politicians on television say we need them for “things”. There were originally an armada of 32 of these ships planned, but in the 26 years from conception to building only three are happening.
