Batman Arkham Knight PC Sales Suspended

Arkham Knight PC

Wow! In this modern-day and age of buggy releases we as players have become used to having to deal with the occasional bug or three on launch day. Every so often though we get a game tossed our way that just isn’t ready for prime-time. You have to look no further than the issues that nearly crippled Assassin’s Creed Unity to see how bad things can get. And while the issues with that game went so far as to hurt UbiSoft’s stock price, it still didn’t keep the game from being playable.

Fast forward to the release of Batman: Arkham Knight PC edition and we have once again hit a new low. While the console editions of the game are doing well with regards to reviews, the PC port of Arkham Knight may just go down as one of the most botched releases in gaming history. The user reviews have it sitting in the “Mostly Negative” rating with 8,332 reviews clocked in so far. Things have gotten so bad with the game that the publisher has suspended all sales of the game for the time being. They made the following statement regarding the matter:

“We want to apologize to those of you who are experiencing performance issues with Batman: Arkham Knight on PC. We take these issues very seriously and have therefore decided to suspend future game sales of the PC version while we work to address these issues to satisfy our quality standards,”

They went on, saying:

“Batman: Arkham fans have continually supported the franchise to its current height of success, and we want to thank you for your patience as we work to deliver an updated version of Batman: Arkham Knight on PC so you can all enjoy the final chapter of the Batman: Arkham series as it was meant to be played,” the publisher said.

It’s a good thing that Steam just instituted their refund policy for any game, regardless of the reason. How a game comes out in such a broken form is beyond me. From changing the system specs the day before release, to many players not even able to get into the game at all, Arkham Knight is a disaster on all fronts. Perhaps we should have seen this coming as PC review sites (us included) didn’t get review copies until after launch.

Even worse is that by the end of the day on the game’s launch, PC copies were being sold for as low as $20 at various online retailers.
