CBS drops Supergirl CW picks up the slack for season 2

Supergirl

Supergirl has found a new home over on The CW. The CBS superhero show seemed out-of-place on a network full of, well, whatever it is CBS does. The show did well enough in the ratings, but the cost always seemed to make the network nervous.

The move to The CW makes a lot of sense with that network having a plethora of DC heroes in their own series. Not only that, but each of those (Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow) are all doing great numbers. On top of that, Supergirl just had a major crossover with The CW show The Flash too much praise.

Supergirl, based on the DC Comics heroine and starring Melissa Benoist, is produced by Warner Bros. The studio also owns DC Comics and shares ownership of The CW with CBS. It’s all one big family, so while CBS did drop the show it’s not exactly a cancellation. This move will allow the show to continue and fits in much better with the rest of The CW programming.

Supergirl averaged respectable 9.7 million on CBS for its first season, so it met expectations, but the demographic for CBS made it a tougher sell. The great news is that The CW has much lower expectations from their shows in terms of viewing numbers, and the move opens the doors for more crossovers with other shows.
