DOSBox Pure Offers “New Way To Experience The Past”

DOSBox Pure

More compatibility = Good.

A new version of DOSBox, DOSBox Pure, has been announced by idie dev Bernard Schelling. And, good news for those of you using RetroArch/Libretro: DOSBox Pure is designed with compatibility with the program in mind. That’s not all; it also features the ability to launch games and mount images from .zip, full controller support, mouse, keyboard and joystick remapping, and even save states.

And it doesn’t stop there, either. You can bring up an onscreen keyboard (useful depending on what device you’re using). There’s MIDI support for SoundFonts, an autostart option from startup, a database featuring info on 20 years worth of games. The video announcement gives a full rundown:

Honestly, these are all mostly quality of life changes that it really probably needed. And, hopefully, you won’t have to wait long to get a crack at them. DOSBox Pure (hopefully) releases this Winter.
