DXRacer Classic Series Office Chair

DXRACER Classic Series

I feel like I’m an expert when it comes to sitting. Heck, even my doctor says I do far too often in may day-to-day life, so I think I can be considered an expert on the matter. But more so than just sitting all day playing games and writing, is the fact that I have a lot of experience when it comes to truly terrible office chairs. In the past I have gone through at least a minimum of one new office chair a year on my quest to save a few bucks. The last chair that I picked up was last November during a big sale period, and that one cost me around $90. In the store everything about it felt just right; it was comfortable, had pretty solid support, and looked good in an office setting. Everything was fine and dandy until about a month later when everything fell apart on me. The cushion went flat and I could feel the wood panel underneath, the recline knob had cracked so leaning back nearly always tipped the thing over, the arm rests textured plastic began to irritate my arms, and biggest of all, my back was killing me once again. But don’t feel all that bad for me as the chair before that one was even worse, and I put up with it for nearly six months. It was time for a new chair, and this time something that would be comfortable, look great, and last a long time.

DXRACER Classic Series
Bingo!

Well it just so happens that the heavens heard my prayers and I was in contact with the people at DXRacer. I knew of the company thanks to covering video games for long enough as their chairs would often show up, especially with regards to eSports coverage. Still, while I was looking for something new and comfortable, I didn’t want something gaudy that would draw attention to itself. I am a gamer to the very core, but in my office I still want to keep things a bit more professional, regardless of the wall of memorabilia in front of me as I type this. The line of DXRacer chairs all looked comfortable, and came with enough features to make anyone envious, but they all seemed a bit… Extreme for my taste. That’s when they informed me of their new “Classic Series” line of chairs that are more targeted for an office environment. It was an offer that I couldn’t refuse, and within a few days a Classic Series chair was on my doorstep ready for me o tackle.

Hard work indeed.

After a ceremonial burning of my old chair I slid the huge DXRacer box into the building. It should be noted that the DXRacer Classic Series is a monster of a chair, and while it comes disassembled it still will require two people to move around safely. I wasn’t about to go this alone as my back was already bad enough without me throwing it out trying to channel my inner circus strong-man. Like I said, I have purchased a lot of chairs in the past and every one of them I could easily walk out of the store with (or roll) and toss into my car. With the DXRacer that is simply not going to happen as it’s quite the beast. Opening up the box everything is expertly packed and all the parts are very easy to lay out and put together. The Classic Series is a pretty easy build, but you are you are going to flip through the instructions one or twice as there are a fair number of steps.

Pondering why you’d ever purchase any other chair after this one.

The build took just under thirty-minutes, and aside from a little trouble with a side plastic covering, everything was quite smooth. The Classic Series is the most solid chair that I have ever sat in, and after having used the chair for some time now, it still looks and feels brand new. This chair comes in a gorgeous black and white color scheme (others will be available), and while DXRacer love plastering their logo on their gaming chairs in huge font, on the Classic Series the dual logos are just above the shoulders in a very subdued font. They aren’t intrusive to the design and fit in well while still showing off the company branding at the same time. It’s the kind of look that fits perfectly in an office environment. I’m a stickler for quality, so going over the stitching with a fine tooth comb I couldn’t find any signs of fraying or missed stitches. Everything is on point, with the quality really shining through all over the chair from top to bottom. The chairs stitching pattern has a very smart layout and the underside is connected to the chairs frame with metallic O-rings. This means that the chairs covering isn’t going to budge anytime in the foreseeable future.

The integrated lumbar cushion is a delight

The Classic Series is more than just your basic office chair as it comes with a lot of neat features, some of which you probably never knew you needed. It comes with the requisite hydraulic flipper on one side, with the recline flipper on the opposite. What is nice is that the Classic Series comes with an additional recline lever on the right side of the seat. This handle is very similar to one you would find in a car and allows the chair to recline to a flat position. It was one of those things you never thought you would need, but after a few hours of work it was incredible to lay the chair back and recharge my eyes for a bit. It’s so nice that you’ll find falling asleep in the chair a real possibility, and I would rather roll the Classic Series out to my living room and use it over the recliner I have out there at home. Included with the chair is a lumbar support cushion that ingeniously attaches to the chair with a band and clip. The center-back of the chair can slightly separate from the rest of the chair allowing you to slide lumbar cushion clip through it, running it through the chair. This keeps the clean looks of the chair, but also lets you slide the cushion up and down at while without having to re-clip anything. Being the kind of person that often stuck a small pillow behind me, this little extra matching support cushion was a godsend.

The arm-rests also come with their own special features. They are a smooth black plastic that only have a very mild texture. One of the biggest complaints that I’ve had with chairs in the past is with the arm-rests. They are either overly textured and end up causing irritation and discomfort, or they are covered in some leather-like material that just doesn’t breathe well and falls apart quickly. The good news at that these ones pass the test in the comfort department, but also once again add some much appreciated features. The Classic series chair doesn’t go down very low (at least in comparison to my older chairs), but the arm-rests fix any issue. I’ve had more than one chair that just wouldn’t slide under my desk, either when I’m away from my desk, or when I want to get up close and personal with my screen. The DXRacer Classic series arm-rests fix this as you can pull up a tab on each that will allow you to adjust the height to almost any level you want. Having them all the way down lets me slide it close to my desk as this often helps me keep my posture in check. Each arm-rest also has a button on the thumb side of each that lets you pull the arm-rest forward and backward to match you arms length, but also two buttons that lets you adjust their position side to side depending on your arms width. You can also turn each arm-rest toward or away from you at an angle for optimal adjustment. I often found myself playing around with all these buttons depending on how I was sitting.

My backup chair is extremely jealous.

This is the part of the review where I lay on you fine readers all the issues that I usually have with said game/product. The problem here is that I am really hard pressed to find one with the DXRacer Classic Series. It’s got great style, but more than that my back hasn’t felt better after a long day at work. After just a week of using this chair a friend of mine said that I seemed like I’ve been in a much better mood as of late. Granted this could be nothing (I have lucked out by playing some non terrible games as of late), but I know my back is thanking me. Sure, DXRacer has other chairs available that offer even more bells and whistles, but if you are looking for a new office chair that will replace your current one for years to come, the DXRacer Classic Series will be hard to beat. The DXRacer chairs usually run upwards of $300 so this is going to be a luxury purchase, and the Classic Series doesn’t have a price yet as it’s only just now beginning to roll out, but if you are concerned about saving your back and having a great looking office chair then you can rest easy knowing the money will be well spent. Hell, all the money I’ve spent over the past three years on crappy chairs could have easily been saved with just one Classic Series chair.

Visit DXRacer online to see more of their chairs, and head over to the Classic Series link here to keep an eye on when the series rolls out in full.
