EA Cancels Open World Star Wars Game

Star Wars

Eh, not surprising at this point.

According to Kotaku, EA has canceled an open world Star Wars game that had been in development since the closure of Visceral Studios. It was announced shortly after the closure of the studio, which coincided with the cancellation of Amy Hennig’s game at Visceral, codenamed Ragtag.

At the time, EA framed the game as a “refocusing” of Hennig’s game. They said:

[The game was] to be a broader experience that allows for more variety and player agency, leaning into the capabilities of our Frostbite engine and reimagining central elements of the game to give players a Star Wars adventure of greater depth and breadth to explore.

After the closure of Visceral, EA Motive’s Jade Raymond stated there were plans to reuse the work from Hennig’s game in a new title. Information about Ragtag then leaked; the game was to give players control of a team of smugglers in the Star Wars universe.

Sadly, it seems neither game will see the light of day, now.
