I don’t find this state of affairs to be that surprising.

Earlier in the week, news came out that someone working for EA on their FIFA franchise had been selling Ultimate Team items to players for real money. This has prompted an investigation from EA on the matter.

The conversations leaked show players contacting an employee (unnamed) and negotiating the purchase of these in-game items. The prices discussed tended to range between 600-1,000€ ($750-1200). For reference, these items are normally sold in random packs (like trading cards) for in-game currency as well as purchased for real money, hence the scandal of people just outright buying the rare cards. Needless to say, many players on social media found this to be galling:

I really liked this one.

EA has finally made an official statement on the matter, as well:

Needless to say, whoever’s responsible for this is probably losing their job if they’re caught.
