Eric Wolpaw Returns To Valve

Valve

Tiny glimmer of hope?

Half-Life 2 and Portal co-writer Eric Wolpaw has returned to Valve. And the confirmation comes from no less than GabeN himself!

Wolpaw previously left the company in 2017, alongside other Valve alumni such as Marc Laidlaw and Jay Pinkerton. Pinkerton returned to the company last July, and Wolpaw has seemingly followed him back. The news has been going around on social media, via an email purportedly from Gabe Newell. What’s more, Shack News was able to confirm Wolpaw’s return by finding his name in the credits to Valve’s Artifact. Since the game released in November of last year, Wolpaw has actually been back for a while.

As to what else Wolpaw or Pinkerton are working on at the moment is anyone’s guess. But since Artifact marked the return of Valve to actually shipping new games, it’s entirely possible there’s something with a three in the title on the distant horizon.

Granted, it probably won’t be Half-Life 3; Marc Laidlaw posted what he’d envisioned for such a game to his personal site after he left Valve. But the spark of hope has, no doubt, once again been ignited. You just might want to temper it.
