ExZeus 2 – Review

ExZeus 2 - 0

ExZeus 2 is an action game by HyperDevbox. It’s the sequel to an arcade game they made years ago. And, in my opinion, reminiscent of a number of Dreamcast/early 2000’s games.

The story is set in the further-flung future. The robots from the original game all but forgotten, Earth in at peace. Until a bunch of space pods land on the planet. Earth quickly scrambles to assemble a new robot out of the original 3. Minos, the new robot is sent out to deal with the menace. Said menace apparently includes helicopters.

Okay, so there weren’t any helicopters in that pic. It’s hard to take screenshots when you’re already using both hands. Just trust me; there were helicopters.

It’s fairly standard arcade fare, otherwise. My controller, however, is slowly convincing me that it needs to be replaced with an Xbox 360 controller. Because I had no way of making it work with this game. Things were scrambled, and there was no way I tried that fixed it. This made it really hard to get through the first stage; worse in the brief on foot section. Keyboard controls… probably aren’t optimal for this type of game, especially if you’re a console peasant like me.

It’s also worth noting that this game set off my antivirus and firewall like crazy. Just installing it set the damn thing off three times. There’s nothing wrong with the game, however; it works just fine. It just uses things that smell like viruses even though they aren’t, I guess.

So, ExZeus 2 is a decent game, especially if you have a 360 controller. It’s not going to blow your socks off visually. It’s literally an arcade style game. But it’s free, and that’s a huge boon.

Final Score:

3/5
