Facebook ‘Safety Check’ Lets You Check On Loved Ones During Crisis

Facebook is a great tool for day-to-day communication, but it can be a great tool for peace of mind during a time of crisis as is the case with the attacks carried out today in Paris. The service is up and running tonight and lets people connect with their friends and family.

Facebook users can head over to the Safety Check page on your Facebook account (use the link here or type Safety Check into the Facebook search bar). The page will list your friends and family who last checked in and around Paris. Those in affected areas can mark themselves as ‘safe’ letting their connected friends and family know they are okay.

I used the service to check up with those I have in the area where the attacks took place, and it was a great peace of mind instead of having to worry with emails, or bogging down the local phone lines.
