Beware my pecs — Green Lantern’s might!

American Horror Story‘s Finn Wittrock is all set to step into the green tights of the Green Lantern. The HBO Max series will focus on Wittrock as the Guy Gardner iteration of the character. Coincidentally, the series will feature some time-travel shenanigans to go with it.

You’d be forgiven for not being familiar with Guy Gardner, since Hal Jordan is the Lantern everyone knows, and John Stewart has probably seen the the lion’s share of screen time thanks to the various DC animated films and shows. Gardner is the lantern that is decidedly hench. Forget the ring for a second; if this guy was coming to kick your ass:

Green Lantern

… you’d fucking run. Even aside from what you’d expect from late-80’s-early-90’s roiding out most male characters got, the guy is h u g e.

Anyway, the show is coming from the minds of Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim, both deeply involved in Berlanti’s Arrowverse-related shows. According to the synopsis, the show “reinvents the classic DC property through a story spanning decades and galaxies, beginning on Earth in 1941 with the very first Green Lantern, secretly gay FBI agent Alan Scott, and 1984, with cocky alpha male Guy Gardner and half-alien Bree Jarta.” There will also be other Lanterns “from comic book favorites to never-before-seen heroes.”

One certainly hopes they take a similar tack to the currently running Superman & Lois.
