The first classic six degree of freedom shooter on console in over a decade, ‘Sublevel Zero Redux’ hits the PS4

Merge Games has announced the imminent release of SIGTRAP Games’ Sublevel Zero Redux, the first classic six degree of freedom shooter on console in over a decade, on PlayStation4.

Sublevel Zero Redux is a first-person roguelike six-degree-of-freedom shooter set in a universe where reality is falling apart. Take control of a lone gunship pilot whose mission is to loot and craft ancient technology. Descend into a vast underground facility, fighting through procedurally generated zero gravity environments to recover the technology you and your clan need to survive.

Sublevel Zero Redux Inspired by classics such as 1996’s Descent and 1998’s Forsaken, Sublevel Zero Redux is the first classic 6DoF shooter on console in over a decade. Sigtrap have remastered, extended and improved their debut PC title Sublevel Zero to create Redux. New enemies, difficulty options and unlockable content make Redux the definitive version of the game.

Sigtrap lead programmer Luke Thompson says “When our original publisher (UK industry legends Mastertronic) sadly went bankrupt, we had to struggle through on our own. But with help from Merge we’re incredibly proud to have our debut title coming to console.”

Sublevel Zero ReduxSublevel Zero’s retro gravity-defying combat is driven by modern looting and crafting mechanics. Players must battle their way through a wide range of environments, from industrial zones to mining caverns. Pilots will need to think on their feet and adapt to hazards before it’s too late.

Pilots will be able to salvage wreckage from enemies and then be able to craft it into a wide range of weapons, upgrades and game-changing items. Players will find that crafted items will affect the performance of their gunship when equipped, allowing them to customise their ship’s loadout to suit their style of play.  Unlocked items and blueprints remain available on subsequent play-throughs allowing players to maintain their progression in the game.
