Gamescom 2021: DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR’S CUT And The Missing Monster

Death Stranding Director's Cut

Just… forget about Astolfo for a minute.

So, when it came out, EAT STANDING DEATH STRANDING DIRECTOR’S CUT was a game I made a bit of fun of. And I was wrong to do so (though I still don’t know what the hell a “Strand-type game” is supposed to be), because as it turned out, it was not only the best game you could hope to be spiritually based on The Postman, it also ticked all the “big number go up” boxes in my brain. Also a damn good soundtrack.

But I imagine there were some things missing from initial release that Hideo Kojima really wanted to see in there, and so, we now have Death Stranding Director’s Cut. The trailer shown off on Geoff Keighly’s Doritos Pope’s Geoff Keighly’s Gamescom presentation showcases all the new additions and updates for PS5.

Notably, you’ve got a race track with a host of vehicles, because who wouldn’t want to race after an apocalyptic event that isolated everyone? You’ve also got a slew of new Bridges gear to go along with some new delivery missions. There’s even a new firing range that lets you practice with the game’s weapons, and try for the high score.

In addition, you’ve got new features to go with it all. Bosses can now be refought whenever you want via the shelf in a private room, as well as a new weapon: the Maser gun. They’ve also added 8 new songs to the already stellar soundtrack. Of course, as you may have noticed, Sam’s beloved Monster has now been replaced with a Bridges brand energy drink. You can probably guess what I think about that.
