GameStop Blindsides Employees With Surprise Shipment Of PS5’s And Xbox Series X’s

GameStop

Really batting a thousand out there.

Per Bloomberg, GameStop managed to get shipments of the coveted new PlayStation5 and Xbox Series X several days ago. The only problem is, they didn’t really bother to tell their employees, first.

As a matter of fact, many of them found out from the customers that this had happened. From this Reddit thread:

Why is it that a CUSTOMER is the one to inform our store about that promotion 15 MINUTES before there was a line of 50+ people out of our door. That isn’t even an exaggeration. Plus, we’re only supposed to have 5 people in our store at a time with social distancing, yet there’s 50 people out there with their masks off coming into our store and ignoring all safety rules. Even after we tell them.

I’m sick of putting my health on the line constantly for a company that couldn’t care less about their employees. This company is so poorly ran it’s laughable.

This company is literally run by morons.

I found out literally 15 minutes before it started because another Store Leader called us and then our DL tried to have a conference call. With no warning. In the middle of a busy Saturday.

I found out from a customer as well before the gso message showed up. Was solo the entire time and it was 2 and a half or 3 hours before I finally was able to get my last allocated ps5 digital bundle to go through. Luckily all my people in line were pretty understanding and chill about the situation. I gave everyone tickets and had them line up off to the side while I rang out the line of people just in the store to shop. So it was also fun when some of the people just shopping were bringing up display cases for things we didn’t have in stock.

Today was a complete and utter nightmare. I feel like instead of this being “employee appreciation” weekend it was “hey employees bend over and get fucked” weekend.

…and so on. Basically, GameStop managed to tell customers that new stock would be available, but only for pre-order. Which led to massive crowds of people not following protocol during a pandemic.

One East Coast manager shared an email sent by corporate just a scant few minutes before the public announcement, stating that they’d have 15 consoles available for pre-order. Minutes after said announcement, that store was flooded with over 40 customers, none of which followed the required social distancing guidelines.

GameStop says that this was meant to ensure actual customers, not scalpers, manage to get their hands on these commodities.

We realize that in some situations our approach of notifying customers of this opportunity may have caused unintended reactions from both our associates and customers. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

GameStop

There are actually several Reddit threads expressing incredulity and anger from GameStop employees about the entire thing. Just a fantastic job all around, corporate. Why, it’s hard to believe that this company is doing poorly right now.

I don”t mean this as a joke: GameStop employees are literally up there with Japanese salarymen on the scale of suffering. When they’re not getting maced by an adult child dressed as a pony or being forced to treat their low-paying salary job as if it were for commission, it’s stuff like this.
