GameStop Presses Pause on their Used Game Subscription

GameStop

I thought that was clever. Sorry.

GameStop’s used game buffet has met with an unexpected hitch. GameStop has halted the program temporarily due to a computer error. Well, less and error, and more that their computers can’t handle keeping track of the games in the program. In a statement to Polygon, a GameStop representative had this to say:

We have elected to temporarily pause the roll out of the new PowerPass subscription service, based on a few program limitations we have identified. We feel this is the right thing to do for now to ensure we are able to provide our guests an exceptional service.

Those guests who have already purchased the service, we are allowing them to bring the pass and video game they have checked out, back to receive a full refund. In addition, we are allowing them to pick out any Pre-Owned video game for free.

While the program went through a soft launch at several locations, it wasn’t set to roll out proper until November 19th. Now, the brakes have been put on that until they sort out the computer mess. But at least those that already bought into the program got a free game out of it.
