The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Glee and Whiplash star Melissa Benoist has been picked up to play Supergirl for CBS on the series of the same name. This new series based in the DC Comics universe will center around Kara Zor-El, better know to fans as Superman’s cousin, Supergirl.
Her origins are pretty similar to Superman’s with her escaping the same destruction of the planet Krypton that also sent the man of steel to earth. The series has already been given a full season commitment by CBS, but it is yet to be seen just how connected this new show will be with its sister shows Arrow and Flash on the CW.
While the series itself is on another network, Warner Bros. owns the rights and has many of the same people working on Supergirl that helped bring to life both Arrow and Flash. We are excited to see what CBS does with Supergirl as the last time she graced the screen in her major film from the 1980’s she failed to capture audiences.
