HBO announces directors for season five of Game of Thrones

Game of Throne

Game of Thrones boasts some of the most talented TV directors around, so if you’re a huge loser like me it’s always exciting to see who’s on board. That said, it’s also puzzling to see who’s not on board – namely, Michelle MacLaren, Neil Marshal, Alan Taylor, and Alik Sakharov. Some new blood is joining the crew.

Episode 501 & 502: Michael Slovis, longtime cinematographer and occasional director of Breaking Bad.

Episode 503 & 504: Mark Mylod, a puzzling choice seeing as how his background is primarily comedic. Mylod directed Ali G Indahouse and What’s Your Number?, as well as episodes of Shameless and Entourage.

Episode 505 & 506: Jeremy Podeswa, who just directed a crappy episode of Tyrant. But let’s not hold that against him, because he’s also helmed episodes of Boardwalk Empire, American Horror Story, and The Pacific.

Episode 507 & 508: Miguel Sapochnik, who in addition to directing the Jude Law blockbuster Repo Men, has also done episodes of Under the Dome and Fringe.

Episode 509 & 510: David Nutter, the only GoT vet on this list, and the director of “The Rains of Castamere.”

Thanks to The AV Club for the heads up.
