Hyperkin puts April Fools day Smart Boy device into development

Smart Boy

April 1st is always a difficult day to be a writer on the internet. Sure, most pranks can be spotted from a mile away, or quashed with a bit of research, but when you see hundreds of articles and stories a day it can be a pain on April 1st. Such was the case yesterday when Hyperkin, maker of retro consoles and accessories, announced the Smart Boy. While it was in fact an April Fools joke, it was also a market test to gauge consumers reaction. This seems to be the case nowadays in our internet only world. Think Geek has been doing this kind of thing for years on end. They mock up some silly fake products for April Fools Days and if the interest is high enough they send a few into production.

Hyperkin has now done the same thing with their Smart Boy concept. With the Smart Boy you’ll be able to dock your iPhone (and hopefully Android) into a recreation of the original Nintendo Game Boy. But don’t think that this is just some weird case with physical buttons! The Smart Boy will have a second slot on the rear of the unit that will be able to accept actual Game Bot game carts. This means that the unit will emulate any game tossed into it and let you play your classic Game Boy games on the go without having to lug around an extra device.
