Instagram Goes Portrait and Landscape in Latest Update

Instagram

I love Instagram for a number of reason, but what I don’t love so much is having to use the app itself to take my pictures. Sure, you can just use your phones normal camera and upload any photo from within the Instagram gallery function, but often times these will be heavily cropped and/or zoomed. This happens because Instagram uses this square image size for formatting issues within the app. This in turn means many of us turn to Instagram image apps that allow our portrait and landscape photos to fit within the services limitations.

That all changes today as Instagram has just announced it will now allow its users to upload landscape and portrait-oriented photos. No longer will you have to figure out tricks or have to open up four different editing apps just to upload that landscape shot of that fancy dinner you are eating. While many will continue to use the standard square layout, it’s nice to have options without having to have a litany of other apps installed. It also opens up the creativity that Instagram itself pushed by allowing anyone to become an amateur photographer.

The new portrait and landscape function are seamlessly integrated into the basic Instagram layout choices, but you’ll also still be able to upload the standard square format like always. Even better is that these new features also roll over to the video side of things. This means that you’ll be able to take video in a much more cinematic manner.
