Instagram ‘horizontal’ update was and accident

Did you check your Instagram this morning and notice something weird? Well, it seemed a lot of people noticed because there was a fair bit of outrage over the update that rolled out.

People were not happy with the fact that the scrolling that Instagram is known for was altered from vertical to horizontal. The strange update required users to tap to view the next post in their feed.

This pretty much completely changed how Instagram felt and people were not thrilled with this little experiment. This was more troubling as there was no warning that a major change in the platform was coming.

Adam Mosseri, head of product at Instagram, took to Instagram to address the matter stating that the horizontal change was an update that was accidentally rolled out to a larger audience than intended. The issue was fixed shortly after.

But Mosseri’s tweet stated that this new Instagram view was a test. Does that mean that we might be getting a new way to view posts on Instagram? Not sure how we feel about that.
