Microsoft is Trying to Up their First Party Support for Xbox One

Xbox One

Plans to acquire more studios to meet that end.

Exclusives are the foundation of pretty much any console. Nintendo and Sony both have a growing stable of First-Party software to rely on when Third-Party developers are fickle. And while Microsoft did well in that area with the Xbox 360, that cannot be said for the Xbox One. And that’s something, according to Phil Spencer’s recent Bloomberg interview, that they’d like to change:

We need to grow, and I look forward to doing that […]Our ability to go create content has to be one of our strengths. We haven’t always invested at the same level. We’ve gone through ups and downs in the investment.

– Phil Spencer

What this means for Microsoft is that they”ll be starting or purchasing new studios to fulfill this need. The latter of which can sometimes be an area of concern. Especially considering the end result sometimes falls short of spectacular. Especially in light of EA’s tendencies with studio acquisitions. Doubly so, considering Microsoft shuttered Lionhead last year.

All that said, you sort of need to just wait and see. Who knows? This could be the beginning of a new era for Microsoft.
