Microsoft HoloLens is a fancy bit of kit that will be out of the price range of the majority of the population. So many other VR devices are in the same boat, costing more than an entire video game console and a few games. But now Microsoft is looking to change that with a new line of affordable VR headsets.
These new devices will start at $299 and come from a number of Microsoft partners that include Dell (Dude!), Asus, HP, Acer and Lenovo. What makes these headsets special (other than the price) is that they will be the first VR units to ship to market with “inside out six degrees of freedom sensors.” This means that the headsets won’t need cameras or lasers to track movement.
These new headsets work with the new Windows 10 update and lets you try out the new Paint 3D program that allows you to, well, paint. To be fair you can also create in VR and print what you make via a 3D printer. You also won’t need a huge room for that sill “room scale VR” that is all the buzz. People don’t have that kind of room. Come on now.
These new Microsoft VR headset’s are half the price of what is currently on the market, so that’s a big plus for consumers. Also, having Microsoft backing the units is a big step to getting them in homes. No world if these units will ever be compatible with the Xbox One, but we can hope.
