Netflix and Nickelodeon Team Up Against Disney+

A day after the launch of Disney+, Netflix announced a brand new partnership with Nickelodeon that includes a multi-year deal to produce new animated content. The pair have already worked together on a few animated projects but this new deal seems strange.

A SpongeBob Squarepants spinnoff might be the first project between Netflix and Nickelodeon

Nickelodeon is owned by Viacom, a company that already has its own paid streaming service and pitched Nickelodeon as part of their holdings alongside Comedy Central, BET, MTV and more. Viacom is also in the process of merging with CBS, which also has its own streaming platform.

We don’t have many details on what this new partnership will entail outside new animated shows and films based on Nickelodeon properties. What’s strange is that you can currently stream all you favorite Nickelodeon shows over on the VRV streaming platform.

One bit of news that is being reported states that a SpongeBob Squarepants spinnoff might be the first project between Netflix and Nickelodeon. The show is described as a “music-based project” and centered around Squidward.
