New FPS Mouse Crosses Rubber-Hose-Era Animation with Doom

Mouse

Not Even Cuphead Music.

It’s always a good/bad day for rubber hose era animation fans. In this case, a new indie game titled Mouse is on its way, which visually resembles the style of classic cartoons from the 20’s and 30’s.

Join private detective John Mouston in MOUSE, a gritty, jazz-fueled shooter. With guns blazing and a retro rubber hose animation style, battle your way through a corrupt city full of crooks and danger. Inspired by classic FPS and noir films, MOUSE is the explosive shooter you’ve been waiting for.

Mouse developers Fumi Games are very clearly drawing from the same well as Cuphead (as if you needed me to tell you). That said, instead of platforming, they’re instead doing the boomer shooter thing (you can smell a smidge of Blood DNA in that trailer). Which means that Mouse will probably be coming to a certain inmate of the Department of Special Corrections at some point in the future.

That said, things are very early days here in the teaser. Sure, the mouse mobsters are done, but pretty much everything else is bare 3D models. That said, there’s definitely some potential here. And while Fumi Games is relatively new, Mouse may not be their debut title.

In addition to Mouse, Fumi is also working on a game called Galaxi Taxi. Much like its sister game, it draws from classic animation (in color, this time). The difference is that it’s a side-scrolling shoot ’em up such as R-Type or Gradius. Since both are currently in development, either could be the studio’s debut game. Regardless, everything they’re working on looks great. Whichever game drops first is going to make an impression.
