New Measure Would Ban Military From Recruiting Through Gaming & Twitch

U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has introduced a new measure that would prevent the United States military from recruiting new service members through video games and live streaming platforms related to them.

The measure comes as the United States military has come under fire for its presence on Twitch over the past few months. We’ve written about how both the Army and Navy have been banning those watching who ask or talk about war crimes allegedly attributed to each branch.

Another instance saw Twitch stop the US Army from posting giveaways that were called out for being fake and only used to gather potential recruitment information on users. During certain streams, a link would appear in the Twitch chat that would advertise the chance to win an Xbox Elite Series 2 controller but would instead lead to a sign-up page without mention of the contest in question.
