Nintendo Bringing Rides and Attractions to Universal Theme Parks

Nintendo Theme Park

Nintendo has been having a pretty fantastic year so far. Their Wii U system is finally moving units, and the system has a number of critically acclaimed games helping make that happen. But beyond just games and hardware, Nintendo has been making a lot of moves outside of its traditionally “games only” market.

The big N has recently announced that it was venturing into the mobile market, something that people never thought would happen, but now has announced a new partnership with Universal Parks to turn some of its huge video game properties into theme park attractions.

While this is huge news for gamers everywhere, and a great way to bring in a new group of youths that may not have grown up with Nintendo as the main player in their home, the deal offers up one additional detail of importance. Nintendo has hinted that this new partnership may also bring about video related content. That’s right, and while we don’t expect a Super Mario Bros. 2 film, the door is now open with Universal to produce some sort of content.

If you remember some time back, we covered the rumor news that Nintendo was working on a live-action Zelda series for Netflix. While Nintendo refuted these claims, this new partnership with Universal could be a step in that direction. Still, I’m excited to see what kind of Nintendo based rides we will be getting, as there is no doubt we need to get a Mario Kart ride with Luigi giving us his death stare.
