Nintendo Switch to offer NES and SNES classics every month to paid subscribers

It looks like Nintendo is finally following suit to what both Sony and Microsoft have been doing for a couple of console generations now. We have learned that the company will be offering monthly games from the NES and SNES library every month to those that subscribe to the online component of the Switch.

Much in the same way that PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold, the online plan from Nintendo lets you play selected classics from the NES and SNES as much as you want. But unlike Xbox Live Gold you aren’t going to be able to keep the games after the month ends, unless you buy the title.

This might be something for fans of classic Nintendo titles, and it’s a nice little extra for those that subscribe to the service to play online. And to be fair, most of the games can probably be completed from beginning to end several times in less than a month.

We also learned that Neo Geo games are coming to the console, and while this doesn’t sound like much, for arcade fans like me it means taking our favorite fighting game will be able to join us on the road with real controls. Right now Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu notes that King of Fighters ’98 will launch in march. Let’s hole the JoyCon’s work as the Neo Geo games only need four buttons. Taking the Switch out with friends and getting my Metal Slug on has me pretty excited.

Other confirmed titles heading to the Nintendo Switch are Waku Waku 7, Shock Troopers, World Heroes Perfect and Metal Slug 3. The nice thing is that each game will left you play in the games original grainy CRT mode to give each title that authentic feel.
