No Non-Microsoft Web Browsers for Microsoft 10 S

Windows 10 S

It’s basically the stuff made for schools, guys.

Microsoft has taken aim at Google’s Chromebook/ChormeOS combo machines designed for schools. Meet Windows 10 S, a stripped down version of windows made for schools and teachers. And, oh yeah, hope you like Windows Edge, because you can’t install another browser with the system.

The reason why is that Windows 10 S devices only allow installations from the Windows store. The Windows store only allows browsers built around the Windows platform. Which just so happens to include Windows browsers and only Windows browsers.

That said, it’s not really a big deal overall. Since Windows 10 S is meant for schools and budget devices, the impact of this is relatively small, compared to what would happen if the base version decided such a thing was kosher. And hey, you can always upgrade to the full version if you want.
