PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds getting Review Bombed on Steam

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

It’s a real smack to the teeth.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has had a pretty good run of positive publicity. But that seems to be coming to an end. Its Steam page is getting blasted with negative reviews. The reason? An in-game advertisement for a Chinese gaming VPN.

The game is fully localized in China. But the servers are apparently terrible, so many Chinese gamers are forced to join European and North American servers just to get around it all. Unfortunately, that causes lag in those games, because the Chinese players sort of bring that lag with them. Those Chinese players have recently reported in-game ads for an “accelerator” VPN to make joining these foreign servers faster and easier. And therein lay the problem.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds

They feel that in-game advertising for something like that in a game they already had to pay to play is a bit unfair. And, they feel that Bluehole should be doing more to support the Chinese servers so that they don’t need to connect to servers on other continents just to play a decent game. And thus, the Steam review bombing. Bluehole has yet to respond.
