Randy Pitchford On $80 Borderlands 4: “If You’re a Real Fan, You’ll Find a Way to Make It Happen”

Borderlands 4

Judging by how well the movie did, there aren’t that many “real” Borderlands fans.

As usual, open mouth, insert foot. In this case, it’s generational greaselord Randy Pitchford, and the reason is a potentially $80 Borderlands 4.

Well, I can tell you I’m sure not going to pay $80 for it. I’ve never bought one of these games; I don’t like giving Randy money. Every single one I do own was gotten via giveaway (see: Epic’s weekly games &etc.). I still haven’t played any of them. Besides, none of the machines I own really need an injection of grease.

Realistically, you can expect it to be a 7, 7.5 game. That’s not really the issue here; well, not really. The actual issue is that the floodgates have opened, and now everyone thinks that whatever game they’re making is an $80 MSRP game. At least Nintendo has the decency to not have every Switch 2 game they make cost $80, but that’s not the lesson everyone else, especially in the Western industry, learned.

No, no, everything is now going to be $80 because the suits that be have seen the escalation of economic warfare, and their inner Ferengi is champing at the bit. Price the digital release lower due to an almost complete lack of overhead? Why?! They’ll spend that money on a poorly optimized game that takes up half their hard drive and like it!

Oh, as an aside, most people back in 1991 didn’t buy their games for full price. They either rented them, or bought them either on sale or secondhand. I have a bunch of Sega Genesis games from back then with Game Dude stickers to prove that. Get fucked, Randy.
