Razer and Verizon Team Up For 5G Handheld With Local Game Storage

Razer

Like-a with-a the Iron Man, everybody doing a handheld-a now.

Like with streaming, everybody’s tossing their hat into the handheld gaming platform arena now. Recently, Razer, Qualcomm and Verizon have teased their team-up to that end by teasing the Razer Edge 5G at Mobile World Congress Las Vegas. While details are still light, we do know that it’ll feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon G3x Gen 1. Which naturally runs Android games really well. The other thing we know is that it’ll store games locally; good, because I doubt you have a data plan through Verizon (or really any other carrier) that makes cloud gaming on the go sensible.

Granted, it still can deal with cloud gaming, obviously. Which puts it in the middle of the Steam Deck and the Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld. The edge (heh) it has over both is the fact that it is 5G capable; both the G Cloud and Steam Deck require an internet connection, most commonly through WiFi. That said, aside from cloud gaming, we don’t know exactly what’s on offer, here; it could mostly be Android games, or maybe something more. We’ll find out once they drop more information at RazorCon on October 15th.
