RE2 inspired & sort of pseudo remake ‘Daymare: 1998’ gets first gameplay video

The Resident Evil 2 remake from Capcom is still apparently happening. It’s been a long while since we’ve heard any news on the project, but that’s not all that strange as Resident Evil 7 is (and should be) getting all the attention right now.

Some interesting news around all this was the very unofficial remake of RE2 by a group of fans that formed Invader Games. Fan remakes are nothing new, but the project was shut down once Capcom announced their own remake.

Everything seemed fine as Capcom even invited the team out for a meeting to talk, share stories and all that sort of stuff. But now with that remake seemingly on the back burner the studio is back with their remake, albeit now fully rebranded with any refrence to the Resident Evil universe removed.

The project is now called Daymare: 1998 (a nice nod to the game they are paying homage to) and still feels very Resident Evil, but as you can’t copyright gameplay the team should be fine. For those new here, the game is a third person survival horror game. The story takes place in the late 90s, where a terrorist attack transforms the unaware citizens of a little community of northwest America into violent and deformed creatures.

A Kickstarter for the project will be launching sometime early next year. You can check out the first gameplay from Daymare below:
