Redbox Ending Game Rentals

Redbox

Redbox, the movie and game rental kiosks that are at every 7-Eleven, is leaving the video game business behind. Not surprising as every time I open Craigslist or OfferUp I see people listing clearly stolen Redbox game discs.

This isn’t some slow roll-out however, as the the move is effective immediately. The company will still be selling some games online through the rest of this year. Chances are those discs have to go someplace and some sales will be abound.

Losing Redbox games rentals is a real shame. It was always nice to stop by the Redbox in my supermarket and piking up a new(ish) game on PS4 or Xbox One to feel out before buying it. Maybe it’s because I’m old, or because I still keep my BlockBuster card in my wallet, but there’s something about renting a game that still appeals to me.

Where this hurts most is in communities where high-speed internet isn’t all that great or is data capped. So many of us take downloading a game on an unlimited 100Mbps network. In a lot of places Redbox is a great alternative, so it’s a shame it’s losing its game catalog.

Head over to the website and score yourself some nice deals ahead of Christmas and pick them up at your local Redbox kiosk. Some notable deals include Star Wars:

READ:  The Suffering and more Warner Bros. arrivals now on GOG.com

Fallen Order – $40

Injustice 2 – $10

Mortal Kombat 11 – $20

Resident Evil 2 – $13

They are currently running their 12 Days of Christmas sale as well, so you can snag a few extra deals too.
