RuneScape Classic shutting off servers after 17 years

If you are of a certain age you probably have some memory of playing RuneScape. Released back in 2001, the online MMO took the internet by storm, back when a high-speed broadband connection wasn’t even a thing. Now, 17 years later the Runescape Classic servers are shutting down.

The developers haven’t fully supported the game in quite some time, but the decision to shut it down comes from the ever-expanding bugs and lack of community safety features. The game is simply too old to continue to function as intended.

But for those that have some fond memories of the game you can still play until the servers go offline on August 6. After that day you’ll no longer be able to play RuneScape Classic, so grab some childhood friends and bid farewell to an early MMO staple.
