SNL just axed three cast members

And then there were fourteen – which is still a pretty big cast.

News is coming in that Saturday Night Live has just gotten rid of three of its freshman cast members, after only one season. Brooks Wheelan (seen above, in case you forgot what he looks like) is out, as is the milquetoast John Milhiser…

…and Noel Wells.

None of the three made much of an impression, but at least Wells can say she does a pretty good Lena Dunham.

Beck Bennett, Sasheer Zamata, and Kyle Mooney are all but certain to return. Bennett has established a fan-favorite character (his baby boss), Mooney is taking the reins of the digital shorts, and there’s no way Zamata is going anywhere after the brouhaha that arose last year when people realized “Hey, why doesn’t SNL have any black women on it?” Not to be reductive; Zamata is actually pretty damn funny.

Colin Jost will likely – hopefully – leave Weekend Update, and return to the writers room with Mike O’Brien.
