SpaceX reveals Interplanetary Transport System designed to get us to Mars

SpaceX

Elon Musk is a man with big ideas. His latest plan is to get humans to Mars within the next ten-years and form a working colony on the Martian surface. Where once this dream may have sounded like science fiction, SpaceX looks to make it science fact.

Musk’s space company has released a video of what they have dubbed their “Interplanetary Transport System” that will take human beings where they have never gone before –another world. He also estimates that taking this trip to Mars will cost someone around the same price as buying a new home with a 30-day window to reach the Red Planet.

How the system works

He released a timeline that places the first mission to Mars somewhere in late 2022, but was quick to note that these first flights would be dangerous as everything being done will be completely new. Musk stated that those wanting to take part in the first travelers to Mars will have to ask themselves “are you ready to die?”

He is clear that he does not yet know how funding on this massive interplanetary mission will come about, but he did make a funny South Park reference when talking about possible funding.
