Square Enix announces Kingdom Hearts 2.8 because KH3 is probably never coming

Kingdom Hearts 2.8

Okay, so I may be joking with that headline a bit, but lets start facing reality -The Kingdom Hearts series has seen more side stories and HD remakes than actual entries into the core series (of which there are only two games).

Kingdom Hearts 2.8 will include an HD remaster of Dream Drop Distance, as well as something titled Back Cover. No idea where Front Cover is, but I’m sure that will no doubt be included in the 2.8 “Super Ultra We Swear This IS IT HD Remastered Edition” that will no doubt come out next year.

Actually, Back Cover is just a number of scenes from the mobile Kingdom Hearts game Unchained X. Why they couldn’t just include a tiny mobile game on a massive Blu-ray disc is beyond me. Maybe the will put the whole thing on there, but right now all we know is that it will feature “scenes” from the game.

Birth by Sleep 0.2 – A Fragmentary Passage is the last game in the pack, and is an entirely new story set after the events of Birth by Sleep. I can’t even begin to follow this convoluted mess of a series anymore. How hard does it have to be to follow a series that has only two entries, yet 800 games in it?

Oh, well, at least everyone will have lots of time to figure it all out if before Kingdom Heart 3 drops.
