Star Trek Getting ‘Section 31’ Based Show on CBS All Access

Star Trek is back on TV and its starting to seem like CBS just can’t learn from its past. Don’t get me wrong, I love Star Trek but what killed the franchise was the oversaturation of shows. Both DS9 and Voyager were on the air at the same time which did neither show any favors, let alone the writing staff.

Now with Discovery and Picard on the air, CBS is working on another series in the Trek universe that will be a spinoff to Discovery. For those that don’t know, Discovery got blasted 1,000 years into the future so that they can play without worry about stuff like the canon of Trek.

Michelle Yeoh is set to lead this new series tentatively titled Section 31, the name of Starfleet’s super-secret police that defend the Federation by totally breaking all the rules. Much about the show is still under wraps but filming on the pilot is set to start this May up in Mississauga, Canada.

Star Trek sure seems to be boldly going as of late, I’m just not sure if it’s in the direction serious Star Trek fans would have liked. Still, Picard and Discovery are gorgeous looking shows, so at the very least Section, 31 will look nice.

I know what I always wanted was for Star Trek to get dark and gritty (read with intense sarcasm). I also love explaining and giving rich backstory to characters and organizations that live in the shadows. Wait, I actually hate that
