Star Wars Rebels “Legacy”

Star Wars Rebels

Well we finally got one big mystery solved on Star Wars Rebels. What happened to Ezra’s parents? Well…

Things start off with Ezra getting a force vision. It’s as disjointed as these things usually are, but the one thing he get from it is that his parents must be back on Lothal. It really drives the episode much faster than usual, because he just can’t wait. Kanan warns him that just because he saw a thing in a vision doesn’t make it strictly true, as the force communicates in its own way. Kanan and Hera show him a holo map with information on imperial prisons given to them by Tseebo.

Later, they get a list of escaped prisoners via Commander Sato. The entire list has been redacted, but Kanan coaches Ezra through a force trick to find someone on the list. Ezra decides that this person is on Lothal, thanks to constantly seeing a white Lothcat in his vision.

They decide that it’s a good time to go to Lothol, since the blockade has finally been lifted. They’re waiting for Zeb and Chopper to get back, when Zeb notes that there really haven’t been any imperial patrols. Sabine recognizes this as standard protocol for an incoming strike force.

Ezra decides to go get Zeb and Chopper back, Kanan following him as backup since stopping him wasn’t an option. Ezra pretty much mops the floor with all of the Stormtroopers, as well as Agent Kallus, who gets force pushed like he’s a villain from a Steven Segal movie. The inquisitors show up, and Ezra rushes to fight them. Kanan realizes, however, that a fight with them is going to waste time at best, and shoots the door controls, sealing them off.

They make it back to the Ghost just as the fleet is taking off. The flagship gets immediately caught in a tractor beam, and Hera has to work out a way to free them, while Kanan, Ezra and Chopper take the Phantom to Lothol. Hera’s solution? Ram the tractor beam dish.

Kanan and Ezra have a few bonding moments before they begin their search. They find that Ezra’s old home was burned to the ground, with only the hidden basement left. As Ezra focuses on the force, the white Lothcat leaps up out of the basement and leads them on a wild chase through the streets. They just lose it when it hops on a speeder bike, but Ezra says he can track it. Not through the force, as Kanan thinks, but using the tracking device he planted on it.

They follow it way out into the middle of nowhere, where they’re set upon by an old man armed with a blaster. Ezra introduces himself, dodging potshots, before dropping his parent’s names. This gets the man (the former governor of Lothol) to stop and relay his story. Ezra’s parents managed to hear his message, even in prison, and staged an escape. They refused to leave anyone behind, though and paid with their lives. Freed, he returned to Lothol incognito.

Ezra has a final vision of his parents on the cliffs nearby. This one is so vivid that he can hear them, and he tells Kanan about it. Kanan tells him that when people die, they become one with the force, so they’ll always live on inside him.
