Super Mario 64 HD in your Bowser, err… Browser

Super Mario 64 HD

My god, it’s beautiful! If Super Mario 64 wasn’t already the perfect 3D game of that first polygon generation, it sure is now in this fan recreation. Not only that, but you can play the game right inside your web browser. Man, we sure have come a long way in such a short period of time. The game, which only features the first level, “Bob-Omb Battlefield” from SMB64, was created in the Unity engine by developer Roystan Ross (awesome name).

He himself calls the game Super Mario 64 HD and isn’t far off. He says that the recreated level contains almost everything that was in the 1996 original, minus the hunting for 8 red coins and King Bob-Omb himself. Still, it’s not a bad way to kick off your weekend. Also, that music is beyond awesome. I really hope Nintendo takes a cue and gets some real instrumental tracks in future games.

Head over to his website (here) to have a play before Nintendo comes knocking with a cease and desist. Although, as this is just a fan project of a single level the big N might let it slide. Either way, get your 3D on right now!
