Teen Titans Go! Season 2 Part 2 – House Pests

Teen Titans Go! Season 2 Part 2

Teen Titans Go! House Pests is the DVD 2-Disc set of the second part of the second season for the show. Teen Titans Go!, from what I’ve read online is a pretty divisive show, but I’m here to tell you that this set is a fantastic collection filled with some of the most humorous writing currently on a kids television program. I know that this may bring me a lot of hate, –come at me scrublords– but I wasn’t that big of a fan of the original Teen Titans TV run.

That’s not to say it wasn’t a solid show, but it ventured a little to deep into the “let’s be dark because it’s cool” area, something of which I think there is far too much of ever since Batman went all dark and broody. The Titans have always felt like a group of youngsters that fought crime, but had a different style and look from their big brother counterparts. I have always though that the Titans should be fun, they should be comical, they should be geared towards kids –that’s what the Titans are– while still kicking some serious butt.

Teen Titans Go! Season Two Part 2

I came to the Teen Titans Go! party late, simply because I assumed it would be more of the same old Teen Titans. Thankfully the show completely flips things upside down and focuses on being silly and funny; you know, like comic books used to be before every book turned into Gotham City. Hate on it all you want, but the show is still on the air and drawing in big numbers for good reason. I think that this is because the writing is top-notch and offers a number of laugh-out-loud moments, but also because it allows parents who grew up with these characters to share it with their kids in a fun and safe environment.

There is a place for this fantastic show. Look I’m a huge fan of all sorts of comic properties, but I’m really happy to see DC have a show that is targeted for kids, something the have been lacking from their superhero line. I really loved Young Justice and wish it was still on the air, but Teen Titans Go! is an excellent show that asks you to drop your dark and gritty shield and just have some laughs. In fact, the Young Justice crossover episode, “Let’s Get Serious” plays on this by exposing the the differences with both shows and highlighting just why Teen Titans Go! has an important place.

Teen Titans Go! Season 2 Part 2

This set features 26 episodes of the shows –a huge number for only half a season– on 2 discs. After marathoning disc one I was already happy with the amount of content being presented. If you are a fan of Teen Titans Go!, have young kids that are just venturing into the world of superheroes, or have given the show a hard time, this set is a fantastic purchase. There are a number of episodes that standout from the crowd for a number of reasons.

I’ve already mentioned the young Justice crossover episode, but I need to mention “Truth, Justice, and What?” if only for the TMNT reference. This is a funny episode in its own right, but if you know Greg Cipes as the voice of Beast Boy, you’ll also know that he is the voice of Michelangelo on the new TMNT series. This in and of itself sets up a number of hilarious moments that only serious fans will catch. “Video Game References” is another excellent episode that simply goes of the rails when Robin builds a VR training rooms that places each Titan into an old-school 2D retro video game.

Teen Titans Go! Season Two Part 2

Teen Titans Go! Season 2 Part 2 is a lot of fun and for under $15 you really are getting ton of content. The show is set up in small enough chunks that kids will stay engaged and even pokes fun at not having any “To Be Continued” bumpers. Each episode is its own little isolated world that tries its best to simply entertain and make you laugh.

The set doesn’t get all that fancy with any deep extras or any inserts, but as this is targeted to kids, odds are they are just going to want to watch the episodes. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up, or if you have issues with the show, I say give it another chance with a new perspective. Remember that it’s alright to get silly sometimes!

Teen Titans Go! Season 2 Part 2 – House Pests comes highly recommended.
