THQ Nordic acquires the “Carmageddon” series

THQ Nordic today announced that the acquisition of the intellectual property “Carmageddon” has been finalized with Stainless Games, based in Newport, Isle of Wight, United Kingdom.

For those that aren’t in the know, Carmageddon is a vehicular combat video game released for PC in 1997. It was later ported to other platforms, and spawned a series of follow-up titles.

The series saw a return recently that was greeted with “meh” from most people. It wasn’t a bad experience, just one that was not very well optimized, even for the best gaming PC’s out there.

that said, the Carmageddon series was a popular one that has room to grow. It was great back in the same, but also pretty simplistic. The game relied on the blood and guts, something which it was taken to task for in the media.

Hopefully this new acquisition means THQ Nordic will pump out new games in the series and learn that simply pupping out blood and gore isn’t enough anymore in an age where we’ve become accustomed to it. Give me a good demolition racer first and then focus on running over people in neat ways second.
