ThunderCats Gets Rebooted Again

ThunderCats

And this time, it’s worse.

Hey, remember that 2011 ThunderCats Reboot (with Will Friedle as Lion-O), that got no love and was shat out at 5am before being written off for tax purposes? The one that had really good animation and an actual story? Well, forget about it, because ThunderCats is back, in a place and a way that makes you feel uncomfortable.

The fucking comments on this video are gold.

All things are now Teen Titans GO!, you can never have nice things again. Action cartoons in the West? Basically dead, not financially viable to networks.

Don’t get me wrong; the original ThunderCats was not a good show. It was much like every other half-hour toy commercial merchandise driven show of the era: cool concept, with mostly terrible scripts and limited animation outside of the intro, which was meant to get you pumped up. But it was the concept and style which sold it to kids, 30 years ago. Aiming for kids is really kind of pointless, because unlike other such properties, like Hasbro’s stuff and even the DC stable, it hasn’t had a constant presence over that time. You’re not going to have an easy time getting the ball rolling. And judging from the comments, they just pissed in the cornflakes of most ThunderCats fans. The show has a good cast, but the last one had a good cast, so that doesn’t mean anything.

So that’s where we’re at. ThunderCats Roar in 2019 on Cartoon Network. Who knows how it will do? Considering the fact that CN’s schedule is already filled to the brim with Teen Titans GO!, to the point where it’s practically (but not quite) Naruto-choking other content out of the schedule, I wouldn’t be enthusiastic. Ah, well, we’ll always have the original ThunderCats outtakes.
