Turns Out The NES Can Do Color FMV; Something Nerdy Studios Shows Off

It’s the way of things that, as time goes on, the sorts of people that love to push the boundaries of what’s possible on a system will make breakthroughs. And in the case of Something Nerdy Studios, they’ve managed to do something you probably thought was impossible on the NES. The made it run color Full Motion Video at 30 FPS.

And as their test of this feature, they decided to boldly go with a segment of the intro to Star Trek: The Next Generation.

When asked, Something Nerdy went on to explain some of the finer details.

All of this isn’t just to see if they can fit sub-30-second chunks of one of the best Sci-Fi series ever made onto an NES cart, though. Something Nerdy Studios is currently working on an original NES RPG titled Former Dawn, which will utilize this FMV sorcery to bring its story to life.

Frankly, I hadn’t heard of it before. But this is one hell of a splashy way to get some eyes on the game. And to wow said eyes, as well.
